Ruben Amorim Set to Become Manchester United’s New Manager
Ruben Amorim has reportedly agreed to take over as the next manager of Manchester United, following the sacking of Erik ten Hag. Negotiations are ongoing between Manchester United and Sporting Lisbon regarding a compensation package for the 39-year-old coach, who is expected to replace Ten Hag soon.
Amorim has been on the radar of both Manchester United and Manchester City. City viewed him as a potential successor to Pep Guardiola, whose future remains uncertain once his contract ends. Despite the strong professional ties between City’s incoming sporting director Hugo Viana and Amorim, United acted swiftly to secure him before City could make a move.
Amorim has been Sporting Lisbon’s manager since 2020, leading the club to their first league title in 19 years. His impressive coaching credentials made him a prime candidate for the role at Old Trafford. Manchester United’s leadership, including chief executive Omar Berrada and technical director Jason Wilcox, both formerly with Manchester City, are reportedly eager to bring Amorim on board.
The compensation package being discussed is around €10 million, which United is willing to pay. Amorim had previously been linked to West Ham United earlier this year but was passed over in favor of Julen Lopetegui.
As the two clubs finalize the deal, Amorim is expected to take over a Manchester United squad looking to rebound from a difficult start to the season under Ten Hag’s leadership.
